Released as part of the POE IV: The Black Cat anthology (Enchanted Architect / Vestra Pictures,) HOUSE OF THE BLACK CAT is one of the truest representation of 80s Italian horror presented by director Chris Milewski. With a slow, forbidding atmosphere; a ghastly, hazy glow; whiskey inexplicably transforming into bloody feathers; and a variety of taxidermied critters seemingly making anguished cat cries; the film contains some very Fulci-esque ideas indeed. In fact, the cat of Fulci DP Nino Celeste (THE HOUSE OF CLOCKS, THE SWEET HOUSE OF HORRORS) makes an appearance in several photographs throughout the film. Ultimately, HOUSE OF THE BLACK CAT is not without its flaws, but it does provide for an interesting and atmospheric 20 minutes.

One reviewer on Letterboxd noted, "Gets by on the strength of the first story alone, which serves as the most accurate throwback to the C-grade Italian horrors of the early-mid 80's that I've seen. From the hazy look to the striking location to the nonsense of any sort of narrative to the gore that looks gross enough to make you get a bad taste in your mouth, it all works. The other two stories are piffling nonsense, but that first one is worth checking out for eurohorror fans."
